It’s only been about two days since the controversial mid-game altercation during the Los Angeles Lakers vs Memphis Grizzlies game on Friday night. NFL veteran Shannon Sharpe had gotten into a verbal dispute with quite a few members of the Grizzlies team before security intervened to separate the two sides. The Lakers were barely a part of the brawl at the time, but the same cannot be said for a new incident. The Lakers’ recent game against the Portland Trail Blazers hadn’t gone as smoothly as expected and NBA fans had a lot to say about it.

While mid-game disputes are a common occurrence, the probability of such fights has seemingly increased. In two days, Los Angeles Lakers fans have already witnessed two incidents.

The Portland Trail Blazers were leading by two points in the second quarter when Blazers’ Damian Lillard and Lakers’ Patrick Beverley got into a verbal face-off in the middle of the game. It started after Pat Bev fouled Lillard when the latter attempted to make a shot. The duo then exchanged a few words just when the Blazers star was gearing up for a free throw.

Although their conversation was completely drowned out, it was only a matter of seconds before Pat Bev advanced toward Lillard, causing others to step in between them. While their teammates and the officials attempted to keep them apart, the duo nonetheless exchanged a few more words before letting it go.

Pat Bev goes after Chris Paul

Several months before his brawl with Damian Lillard, Patrick Beverley had targeted Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul following a disappointing game against the Dallas Mavericks. The Suns had lost to the Mavs 123-90 in the Western Conference semi-finals last season. Beverley did not waste time in blaming Paul for being a weak point guard when he made an appearance on ESPN‘s ‘Get Up’.

“Ain’t nobody worried about Chris Paul and the Suns. Don’t get it twisted. He can’t guard. He can’t and everyone knows that? CP can’t guard anybody, man, everybody in the NBA know that,” said Paul in May 2022.
