Shannon Sharpe sharply criticized Tatum for acting ignorant on the subject. He clarified that the job of analysts and talking heads in the media is to discuss different aspects of basketball and basketball players. Therefore, the players don’t have to initiate or co-sign any discussion or debate on them.

How this thing works JT, you don’t get to tell if you’re a superstar. We determine.”

Moreover, Sharpe also explained that Jayson Tatum didn’t select himself for this year’s First Team All-NBA. The experts did. And Nikola Jokic didn’t have to give himself the MVP trophy either. The voters made that decision.

Skip Bayless refuses to accept Tatum as a superstar

On the other hand, Sharpe’s co-host Skip Bayless laughed at the idea of calling Jayson Tatum a superstar. As a matter of fact, he said Tatum is as far away from being a superstar as Boston is from Los Angeles. About 3000 miles.

Bayless pointed out Tatum’s lack of consistency in crucial games to support his argument. For example, Tatum scored only 12 points with 3-of-17 shooting in the first game of the NBA Finals. That is not acceptable for a guy averaging about 26-6-6 in the playoffs this season.
