The Ben Simmons-Philadelphia 76ers situation continues to take tons of turns. After many ups and downs, the 25-year-old decided that he would resume his duties towards the side. However, a recent incident with coach Doc Rivers has sparked controversy again. And Simmons’ teammate Joel Embiid, who supposedly had some issues with the player, isn’t having any of it. He has openly spoken out about the situation, stating that he doesn’t care anymore.
The saga began at the end of last season. Simmons, who considered Philly his home for a long time, saw his form dip to an all-time low. This meant that he was warming the bench often. Added to this, his strenuous relations with the coach and few players didn’t help his cause. As a result, things took a turn for the worse. Even after the youngster did eventually return to training, he has now performed a mischievous act that has sent him into suspension.

After returning to practice, Simmons had a couple of outings, but was reportedly not too happy. He did not stay with the team, and apparently disobeyed coach Rivers multiple times. According to fresh reports, the experienced coach asked Simmons to join some defensive drills, which he refused. Owing to some additional misconduct, the All-star and former All-defensive team member has been suspended for the opening game.

Joel Embiid, who has played it cool so far, has now lashed out at the ongoing incidents. He has come in defense of his franchise, and claimed that he doesn’t really care about what Simmons is doing anymore. In a recent interview, he said “At this point I don’t really care about that man, he does whatever he wants. That’s not my job, you know that’s those guys’ job.” The 27-year-old is having none of it, and is focused on the bigger picture.
Do you think Ben Simmons can make it work at Philadelphia? Or is an exit imminent? Either way, he will have to mend his ways sooner rather than later, lest an entire season slips out of his fingers. Let’s hope for the best.
