The 23-year-old called for the freeing of every non-violent substance abuser from prison in a social media post. In addition, McCabe requested Americans to not divide the Brittney Griner situation along racial lines.
The sentencing of Brittney Griner has sparked a heated debate in the country. While many celebrities and public figures have urged authorities to swiftly broker a deal to bring the WNBA star home, many have expressed their discontent with the whole ordeal.

In an appearance on the ‘Full Send Podcast’, Tesla CEO Elon Musk underscored the double standard of the government in trying to free Griner while simultaneously imposing federal restrictions on the use of marijuana for recreational purposes. Musk’s sentiment seemed to gain traction among a lot of people on the internet.

Brittney Griner’s sentencing saw people divided on whether the government should go all out to free the Phoenix Mercury star. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump fanned the rising tensions by calling Griner “a potentially spoiled person” who traveled to a foreign land “loaded up with drugs.”

As it turns out, these remarks offended a large swath of people. The Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar strongly admonished Trump’s controversial rhetoric.
In fact, he accused Trump of speaking against Griner because of her race and sexual orientation. Additionally, the six-time NBA champion also criticized the former President for siding with Russia over an American citizen.
