Teams around the league waited until the last moment of the NBA trade deadline to make some big changes to their rosters. As the deadline fast approached, many franchises picked up their phones to work out deals in order to shake up their teams and add some missing pieces. However, a three-team trade could?ve taken place as early as October that could?ve changed the course of the league, but it was reportedly nixed at the last moment.?
According to NBA and Nets reporter Kristian Winfield, the Brooklyn Nets declined a three-team trade involving the Utah Jazz and the Miami Heat. The trade would?ve sent Ben Simmons to Utah, Donovan Mitchell to Miami, and Bam Adebayo to Brooklyn.?

The trade did not take place as Brooklyn reportedly declined the offer. This led to the Utah Jazz working out a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers which sent Mitchell to ?The Land,? while the Jazz received Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, draft picks and pick swaps in return.

The trade between the Jazz and the Cavaliers arguably worked out well for both teams. As the Cavs received a proven All-Star while the Jazz received a solid defender and scorer in Collin Sexton along with a now All-Star, Lauri Markkanen.

However, one cannot help but wonder what the outlook of the league could?ve been if the trade went through. The Utah Jazz would?ve gotten another building piece while the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets could?ve turned into instant title contenders.?
Ben Simmons may have blossomed in Utah
Ben Simmons, a three-time All-Star,?has not been able to perform at the same level he once was. Bringing him to Brooklyn to play alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving?did put pressure onto his shoulders, as they were touted as the new ?big three.?

Though Simmons did the best he could while playing alongside two All-Stars, one could tell that he was still afraid to shoot the ball and create a shot for himself.
As for the rest of it, sending Donovan Mitchell to the Heat would?ve definitely changed the course of the franchise. Both Mitchell and Jimmy Butler would?ve been a real threat to the entire league with instant energy and scoring.

As for bringing Bam Adebayo to the Nets, that could?ve surely been considered a big three as well. As Adebayo is a player who is not afraid of contact or getting his hands dirty. Adebayo and Irving might have developed great pick-and-roll chemistry, while Durant would?ve helped space the floor.
