After months of speculation, the Utah Jazz has finally traded superstar Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Jazz acquired 3 unprotected first-round picks, and the rights to 2 pick swaps, Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, and Ochair Agbaji. For much of the offseason, it was believed that the New York Knicks are in the driving seat for landing Mitchell. But they missed out on him. And the fans and analysts are shocked at this move that came out of nowhere.

As per reports, Mitchell’s girlfriend Deja Lighty is living in Cleveland. And the two have been in a long-distance relationship so far. This move could bring the two together. Furthermore, reports suggest that Lighty previously worked as an account executive with the Cavaliers.

Deja Lighty is the daughter of Chris Lighty who was an American music industry executive. He has worked as a manager for 50 Cent and was a very close friend of his. When Deja was only 16, Chris committed suicide in 2012 after an argument with his ex-wife, according to reports.

Deja Lighty and Donovan Mitchell have been in a relationship for years now. The two grew up very close to each other. Reports suggest she was with Mitchell during the 2018 all-star weekend in Los Angeles. Lighty has also worked in multiple other sports organizations. Mitchell played in the Rising Stars challenge that year.

After spending 2 years at the University of Louisville, Mitchell declared for the NBA draft. The Utah Jazz drafted Mitchell as the 13th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. However, the shooting guard hit the ground running. In his rookie year, he averaged 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. But he missed out on the Rookie of the Year award to the Australian, Ben Simmons.

Many fans were not impressed with Simmons winning the award because he was actually drafted the year before, in 2016. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Simmons as the #1 pick. However, after injuring his ankle on the final day of the training camp. And he was ruled out for the entire season.

Despite the disappointment of not winning the award, Mitchell has developed into one of the best offensive players in the league. It will be interesting to see how much he could achieve with the Cavaliers.
