The season for Los Angeles Lakers just seems to be getting worse. LeBron James and Co, after their impressive win over Utah Jazz, went on to lose to a depleted Indiana Pacers team. Every time the Lakers seemed to have turned a corner, they hit another rough patch.
The offseason trade to get Russell Westbrook has not worked out so far. Russ has struggled mightily, and this has increased the load on LeBron James. The other pieces have also not been consistent enough. The Lakers are currently looking in the trade market to see what they can get, but have been unsuccessful so far. They do not have a lot of options as they have three max players on their roster. And it is very difficult to convince teams to take on Westbrooks contract.
Likewise, the Lakers seemed to have been handed another blow. They were in pursuit of the Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons and have been dealt a body blow. Reportedly, Grant does not want to play a tertiary role behind LeBron and Anthony Davis.

“I’ve actually heard Lakers have passed on Jerami Grant. He doesn’t want to play a tertiary role behind Bron/AD.”

Grant has been playing some exceptional basketball, and he could have been a solid addition to the Lakers. However, Grant has made it clear that he does not want the third option. This puts the Lakers in a difficult spot, as they were one of the front runners for Grant. The Lakers also do not have a lot to offer and they are very close to reaching their salary cap.

A tough season for the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James
The Lakers are currently in the eighth spot in the West and have a sub.500 record. Barring LeBron, no other player has lived up to their expectations. AD was expected to take the mantle from LeBron, but his play has been rather disappointing. And he has been out of the lineup more often than not. Russ has shown a glimpse of what he has to offer, but he has been far too inconsistent. The other players have had their moments, but none of them are able to do it night in and night out.
However, the Lakers do have LeBron James who has been playing at an MVP level all season long. LeBron is second in scoring and he has been the only saving grace for the Lakers. They will look to get him some help either through the trade market or free agency as we approach the All-Star break.
