Even though the former Chicago Bulls superstar retired two decades ago, his competitive nature still remains abundant. Therefore, when his?Charlotte Hornets?lost to one of his Jordan brand members,?Jayson Tatum, the Hall of Famer reacted in quite a surprising way that left Tatum baffled. In a recent interview, the Boston Celtics superstar spilled the beans on his relationship with MJ.

In 2019,?Boston Celtics?forward Jayson Tatum signed a multi-year contract with the Jordan Brand and joined the ranks of players such as Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook. Three years later, it was announced that Jordan would soon be launching Tatum’s first signature shoe sometime around March 2023.

Michael Jordan avoids Jayson Tatum

The Boston Celtics faced the Charlotte Hornets on January 15 at the Spectrum Center. The Celtics secured victory over the Hornets by 130-118. Celtics forward star Jayson Tatum led the team by putting up an impressive performance scoring a game-high 51 points with nine rebounds and five assists. During an interview with Pierce Simpson of?Complex, Tatum was asked about Hornets owner Michael Jordan’s reaction towards his game-winning performance against the former’s team. The 4x NBA All-Star replied that while Jordan would often send him a text after a good game, he did not receive any messages from the 6x NBA champion after the Hornets game.

“He?ll text me every once in a while when I have a big game, but he didn?t text me after that one,”?Tatum told Simpson.

When asked if MJ had refrained from texting intentionally, the 2022 All-NBA First Team replied,?“Maybe so. I know he watches all the Hornets games, so he saw. Even when does reach out and text me after a good game, that’s still pretty surreal. Even when I see his name come across my phone, it still doesn’t seem real.”

MJ’s advice for Tatum

Given the type of relationship both athletes had, Pierce Simpson asked Jayson Tatum if there was a particular advice given by Michael Jordan that stood out from the rest. Tatum,?who had once inadvertently embarrassed himself in front of Jordan, listed a couple of things that stuck with him.
