The Golden State Warriors may have won their fourth title, but their dynasty may be in trouble. Reports suggest that the Warriors are unwilling to offer Draymond Green an extension due to their large luxury tax bill. This has not gone down well with the face of the team, Stephen Curry, and even fans are not happy with the news.
The Warriors have the largest luxury tax bill in history. They already have two max players in Curry and Klay Thompson. And Green is due for an extension after next year. But that is not the end of the problem.

After having spectacular post-seasons, Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole are also in line for extensions. And then the tax bill would balloon to hundreds of millions of dollars. The Warriors would want to avoid that and their solution is not to offer Green an extension after next season. Green is already 32 and will be 37 by the end of his max contract. Meanwhile, Poole and Wiggins are in their primes and will be integral to keeping this dynasty going.
Curry is not happy with this news and reports suggest he will be distraught that the Warriors let him go due to money. He believes that the big three are a package deal and he would want all three of them to stay until he stays.
NBA Fans react to Stephen Curry being upset with the Warriors for not giving Green a max deal
The NBA fans did not take this news lightly. They agreed with Curry being upset and made some suggestions to keep the dynasty alive. Here are the best reactions:
If Steph really feels this way about Green’s contract he has options. He can do the Tom Brady and take less money to win championships or he can do the Aaron Rodgers and be the highest paid player in the league and no more titles.

So instead of pressuring the team.. why not slap Dray in the face so he wakes up that despite how integral he is to their success, he’s not a max player! Think Dray would be happier winning more rings by retaining Wigs & JP than getting paid with no more rings!

Look if they give Draymond and Klay a max contract, how are the warriors going to pay Poole and Wiggins? I understand that Draymond's leadership is very important to the team but his production does not warrant a max.

I like Dray but with the age and injuries it's too high risk. He has every right to demand a price as the NBA is a business and the warriors have gone from 500m to 5 billion in value.

If Draymond wants to keep the core going, he would play this coming year and pickup his option year and sign a new 2 year contract with a player option. But, as @Money23Green puts it, he running a business. He’s trying not to eat crow by asking for a max extension.@warriors

Players are smart, they think they have leverage and can force the teams. But at some point the money doesn't add up. Frankly, outside of Dub's can Green get what he is getting now?

Just have Steph name which of the younger guys to trade away if they give Draymond the max. Obviously Poole, probably Looney, also probably Wiggins too before his extension. Additionally that if any of the 3 don't play 82 games after shedding the depth, its pretty much a loss.

you just have to extend him. unlike steph (who you’d offer a legacy contract like Dirk), you can drop him after the extension ends and you have 3 more chips

Draymond Green may not be putting up eye-popping stats, but his contribution to the team is very important. He is their leader on the floor and his contributions go beyond the stat sheets. He is Curry’s main pick and roll partner and he sets some of the best screens in the league.
His contributions on the defensive end are what’s more impressive. When Green is on the floor, the Warriors can switch to a small ball lineup without giving up too much size. He can guard multiple positions on the floor and is an outstanding passer.
