Dennis Rodman aka the Worm almost went underground in 1992. Ever since his childhood, his personal life has been punctuated with struggles and hardships. His relationship with his parents were also questionable. His high profile relationships with Madonna and Carmen Electra were publicized. But little do most fans know of his first marriage with Annie Bakes. It was a volatile and unique marriage, to say the least.

Annie Bakes was a big name in the modelling industry and she had a quite a big portfolio clocking in several brands.
On the insistence of their daughter, Alexis, Rodman married Bakes. He revealed that his wedding outfit was shorts and a T-shirt. The following morning, he left for Europe and Rodman said when he came back, they stopped living together.
That was the beginning of their turbulent marriage. After a long-drawn 2 years, the marriage ended. He was personally distraught that he could not spend time with Alexis too. Coupled with the heavy personal troubles, he was also going through a tough separation from his father-figure mentor Chuck Daly.
Dennis Rodman went underground
It was not the best of times for Rodman and he imposed a self isolation. He said that he locked himself in his home at Bloomfield Hills. He refused to take calls or answer the door. Rodman was also absent for games or practices. When he had to go out, he would only step out after midnight, according to a 1993 SI report.
“He was so hurt during the 1992-93 preseason over Daly’s departure, over the breakup of his two-year marriage to Annie and over his inability to spend more time with their daughter, Alexis, now five years old, that he locked himself in his Bloomfield Hills home and refused to answer the door or the phone or attend practices or games,” the report detailed.
Dennis Rodman sincerely believed that he was betrayed. He assumed that everyone that he cared for was no longer on his side – from his family to his coach. That made a huge impression on him and he punished himself for a while. Rodman also became suicidal.

Annie Bakes revealed that she suffered in the marriage with the NBA player. She grew angry and voiced out that Rodman could get the time to get a tattoo of his child on his arm, but not for Christmas or first day of kindergarten.

In 2005, Bakes published a book titled, “Worse than he says he is”, and opened curtains to her past marriage with Rodman. She reportedly revealed a lot of unflattering details about Rodman during their married life together.
