Many professional athletes tend to let go of their physical regimen and gain a lot of weight after they retire from their respective sports. NBA players are certainly not immune to this. However, there comes a time when one reality check is all that is needed to make a big change and get back in shape. This is exactly what happened with NBA legend Charles Barkley. But unfortunately, the 60-year-old had to face the wrath of medical professionals along with it.
After seeing his close friend Shaquille O?Neal shed tons of weight, Charles Barkley went a step further with his weight loss journey. But the way he chose to tackle his weight ended up being heavily scrutinized by many doctors.

Doctors slam Charles Barkley’s choice of medication
A couple of months ago, Charles Barkley made an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show. The two talked about a variety of aspects before the topic of discussion became Charles Barkley?s amazing weight loss journey. Barkley mentioned how his doctor gave him a reality check, leading him to shed excessive amounts of fat and weight. However, the 1993 NBA MVP chose a contentious way to do it.

An article by RadarOnline stated that Sir Charles used the help of injections that are for the diabetes drug called Mounjaro. The drug helps in making the users feel as if they have a full stomach for longer due to its properties of slowing down digestion and reducing appetite. The Philadelphia 76ers legend was crucified by doctors because of the national shortage of medications for diabetes.
As per RadarOnline, a Tinseltown source stated, ?It’s disgusting. Diabetics are in panic right now and solely because Hollywood’s elite can splurge $1,000 a month on these increasingly hard-to-come-by medications.?

Charles Barkley causing shortage of a much-needed medication
Charles Barkley may have taken the easy way to shed excess weight, but the choice of the drug he went with caused quite a stir in the medical community. The drug Mounjaro is used to treat diabetic patients.
If those patients go untreated, some of the consequences they have to suffer are kidney failure, blindness, amputation, heart disease, and even death in extreme cases. One unnamed endocrinologist even said that doctors are desperate to gain access to the medicine for the patients in need.

The same Tinseltown source above even went so far as to say that these celebrities should go to the gym instead of feasting on gourmet food and then taking the easy way out. Now, even though Barkley may feel pretty good about himself and his weight loss, the question that arises is, what about those in need?
