The recent uproar surrounding golfing legend Tiger Woods has dominated media headlines after his edgy prank on his playing partner Justin Thomas during the Genesis Invitational tournament prompted heavy backlash from different circles. Incidentally, Woods offered Thomas a tampon after outdriving him on hole nine implying that his performance was not worthy of a man, which was construed by many sections of the media and the public to be sexist and immature. Despite Woods’ assurances that the incident was merely playful banter between friends, it has sparked intense scrutiny on social media platforms. Meanwhile, NBA legend Charles Barkley recently expressed his frustration at Tiger Woods’ apology following the infamous incident.

In a recent episode of the ‘Steam Room’ podcast, Charles Barkley provided his perspective on the controversial behavior exhibited by Tiger Woods. Following a seemingly innocuous exchange with host Ernie Johnson, Barkley went off on an unfiltered rant on why Woods’ apology had really infuriated him.

During a conversation with TNT analyst Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley expressed his thoughts on the Tiger Woods controversy. As an admirer of Woods and his golfing prowess, Barkley was taken aback by the public’s response to the seemingly harmless tampon joke incident. He stated, “It’s really been bugging me, the Tiger Woods situation, you know. Tiger, to me, is the greatest golfer ever… But I was deeply disturbed how people overreacted to the tampon joke situation…. I am disgusted that he apologized.”

Barkley was adamant about not buying into the current trend of cancel culture and criticized those who sought to counsel or punish others for making mistakes. He added, “I’m not gonna lie, these people, who all of a sudden want to try to cancel and you know who you are. I ain’t never tried to cancel anybody. If somebody makes a mistake, apologize, keep it moving.”

Barkley emphasized the need to retain the freedom to tell jokes, stating, “But I don’t know what we got to the point where we can’t even tell jokes anymore, and I’m not going to let that happen on my watch and just sit back and pout about it and let people do that.” The 1993 NBA MVP subsequently brought up something that the cancel culture crowd should focus on, instead of going after edgy jokes and pranks.

Barkley calls for greater diversity in NFL coaching positions

Addressing the lack of diversity in the NFL, Barkley expressed his frustration with the recurring issue of black coaches being overlooked for head coaching positions. He directly spoke to the crowd trying to cancel Woods and said, “If you want to get mad about something, get mad about the lack of black coaches in the NFL now. I’m getting tired of talking about it every single year, not one year, not two years, we talk about it every single year. I’m not even gonna beg, I’m just saying do the right thing, give some of these coaches a chance.”
