It was a day of relief for the Phoenix Suns fans. After a shocking upset in Game 1, they willed their way to a convincing Game 2 victory. Leveling the series, the tandem of Devin Booker and Kevin Durant combined to score 63. The celebrations were underway as the franchise felt the click. But today was an even bigger occasion for one man: Chris Paul. A nine-year playoff curse had haunted him throughout his career. The power of the curse was such that even before the game began, fans had lost all hope.

However, CP3 wasn’t going to let today be another win for the curse. Apart from his big baskets in the fourth quarter, the NBA veteran was willing to do anything to come out of his ‘hell’.

With the pressure all on the Suns, the stakes went higher up when it was announced Scott Foster would be the referee for the game. The experienced official is a face Chris Paul has come to resent. In the 13 playoff games before tonight, Paul had failed to secure a single win with Foster as the referee. His last win came back in 2013 while the 37-year-old was still a member of the Los Angeles Clippers!

For nine years CP3 was awaiting a victory with Foster as the referee. As the game began, it looked like Paul was heading to a 14th straight playoff loss. However, some heroics from Booker and Durant brought Phoenix back from the ruins. They took charge in the second half and took a lead in the fourth quarter.

With time winding down, a Suns win seemed booked. But Chris Paul wasn’t going to take any chances. As the Clippers kept going to the free-throw line, there he was right beside his kryptonite, Scott Foster. The 12-time All-Star begged the official and even uttered ‘please’ as if to say don’t take it away from here.

Drama soon followed as the away team cut the deficit down to just six points. That’s when Chris Paul took over the offense. He put the final nail in the coffin scoring two mid-range daggers to seal the game away. At last, the curse was broken. The Suns won the game 123-109 with Paul going for 16 points and 8 assists.

After the game, reporters were curious about his actions. But basking in the feeling of total joy, CP3 seemed to have forgotten his own antics. “I don’t know. I gotta watch the game over,” said Chris Paul about his pleading antics directed towards Foster.
