Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets have flipped the script in the NBA from where they were at the season’s start. After a drama-filled offseason and the whole Kyrie Irving fiasco, the Nets had fallen off in the rankings. However, following a rather quiet climb in the standings and an impressive eight-game win streak, the Nets now rank among the best teams in the league. However, certain analysts believe the Nets still lack the firepower to reach the promised land.

The Nets (21-12) faced off against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks (22-10) last night. Adding to their impressive win streak (8), Brooklyn took care of business against the Bucks in a blowout win. However, Zach Lowe of ESPN believes the Nets need to add another piece to solidify themselves as contenders.
Kevin Durant and the Nets could potentially look for this $160 million option
In a recent ESPN Get Up segment, senior writer and journalist Zach Lowe made a striking take on Kevin Durant’s Nets. While commenting on their impressive run, Lowe pointed out that they needed more talent in the center position. Consequently, Lowe mentioned a few players who could best fit the system and fill the hole in the Nets’ system.
Among the list of players, Lowe name-dropped; the one that stands out is Kristaps Porzingis. The 7’3” Latvian center of the Washington Wizards is among the tallest players in the league, who can also shoot threes and defend at a high level as well. “I thought about Kristaps Porzingis. Because he can block shots and shoot threes,” added Lowe.

Due to his skills, the Unicorn was deemed a future superstar a few years ago. However, Porzingis has failed to deliver on his potential due to a series of injuries. But the big man has not fallen short of getting his money. Porzingis’s current contract, valued at around $160 Million, expires after the 2023-24 season. If the Nets could sign Porzingis, he could be the ideal addition for them on paper, in terms of size and presence on the court.
Apart from Porzingis, Lowe also mentioned the name of another center, Myles Turner, from the Indiana Pacers. For over a year, Turner has been in trade rumors, especially with the Los Angeles Lakers. Turner’s current contract, valued at over $80 Million, expires after this season, making him an unrestricted free agent at the prime age of 27. Turner has been one of the league’s best defensive centers in the past decade. His addition could provide the much-needed size and defensive firepower for the Nets.
