Despite the 20-Year Age Gap, Here?s Why Keith Powers Was the Right Choice for Dwyane Wade?s Wife Gabrielle Union?s Upcoming Project

The first look of Gabrielle Union’s upcoming romantic comedy was just released and it’s creating quite a buzz on the internet. It has been quite a while since Union ventured into the romantic-comedy genre with her last two releases being “The Inspection” and an animated movie called “Strange World”. Her latest role, “The Perfect Find” features Union in the lead role and Keith Powers as the love interest.

Although the co-stars have a significant age difference, Union recently explained why Powers was one of the leading choices for the role of “Eric”. Apart from her acting career, Union is also a wife to Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade and mother to their four-year-old daughter Kaavia James.

The movie is based on Tia Williams’ 2016 novel also known as “The Perfect Find”. In the book, the primary character, Jenna Jones, is a 40-year-old woman who falls for a man younger than her. However, that was not the only reason the casting directors chose Keith Powers in one of the lead roles. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Gabrielle Union shared that Powers was one of the top choices mentioned by the film crew.

She said, “The only person that was on every single person?s list in the top one or two positions was Keith.” She added, “Everyone was like, Okay, that might be a slightly younger person that people might throw it all away for.”

Moreover, the fact that Union knew Powers even before the filming began helped them get comfortable displaying the emotions of a couple in love.

Union has a great deal of respect for Powers

According to the “Bad Boys II” actress, her and Powers were already friends long before they came together for a movie. Union revealed that she and her husband Dwyane Wade were amazed by the way Powers and his ex-girlfriend Ryan Destiny dealt with their roles.

She said, “It was just kind of a natural progression of a friendship that already existed, but it comes out of respect. He has an enormous amount of respect for Dwyane, I have an enormous amount of respect for Ryan, and it just made working super easy.”
