It was June 16th, 1996, and Michael Jordan was celebrating another NBA championship. However, this particular moment wasn?t like the other three he had won before. This one meant much more to him than anything else. It was the Father?s Day championship. And in the rarest of rare moments, Jordan was seen lying on the floor of his locker room, crying his heart out. This win was not just another win; this one was for his father.

Arguably one of the biggest, greatest NBA players of all time, Michael Jordan doesn?t need any introduction. Not one to tap deep into his emotional side, this was a defining moment of his career. He touched everyone?s heart while being off-court that day.?

In 1996, Jordan finally let the entire world know that he was human after all and not Mr. Scrooge like Charles Barkley says he was. He broke down on camera, crying his heart out in memory of his father, James Jordan Sr.?

Jordan?s father was killed in 1993, a few days before his birthday. His father?s murder left MJ in a lot of emotional distress.?For His Airness, his father had a great deal of impact on his life. His father was found at almost all of his games, cheering his son on. After his passing away, something was missing for Micheal. He struggled a lot, emotionally and mentally.?

So, when in 1996 the Bulls won 87-75 against the Seattle Supersonics, it was probably the most emotionally exhausting victory of his entire career. This victory’s date fell on June 16th, which was coincidentally Father?s Day. Jordan won this first title without his father cheering him on. After the game, Jordan returned to his locker room and collapsed on the floor. When he came out to accept the trophy after calming down, he only had one thing to say – ?I know he?s watching. This is for Daddy.?

This moment in Jordan?s life was groundbreaking, not just for him, but for the entire world. However, MJ wasn’t one to get emotional easily at all, as his former friend Barkley once revealed.

His Airness wasn?t one to feel his emotions?

According to Jordan?s teammates, he couldn?t display raw emotions in public. He always had this aura of competitiveness, a winning-at-all-costs attitude surrounding him. Winning the 1991 championship brought some emotions out of him at the time. His attempt at getting closer to the less fortunate was also a well-known fact.

He didn’t believe in ?helping? the homeless with handouts in the form of money. His best friend, Charles Barkley, said on Oprah once that there was nobody cheaper than MJ. Jordan believed if homeless people could ask for spare change, they could easily work at a McDonald’s too.?
