On the road, the Golden State Warriors came within touching distance of beating the Sacramento Kings in Game 1. The contest was a showdown between two of their tandems. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson traded scores with De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk for the entirety of the fourth quarter. It all came down to the final three seconds when the two-time MVP launched a wild three to potentially tie the game. Sadly for the Dub Nation, it didn’t fall.

However, before the last possession, the defending champions had a chance to take the lead with an Andrew Wiggins three. While speaking to the media about the loss, Curry seemed to subtly blame the returning star for the result.

The fourth quarter is where it all happened. A rollercoaster of a game, the last 12 minutes were the most memorable of the night. Until the last second, any team could have emerged victorious. But as the story went, the Kings won the duel of the fourth. Speaking about the dramatic period, Curry pointed out the Warriors missing a chance to take a two-point lead in the dying moments of the game.

“We had a good look on the corner to go up two down the stretch of the game,” said the two-time MVP.

The play he is referring to is when the scores were within a single point. The Warriors got a stop with more than enough time to make something happen. It was all or nothing. With the Kings defense shutting down Curry due to his rhythm late in the game, it left the option of a wide-open Andrew Wiggins. Returning after 62 days, at first it looked like he had never left. But when it came to his shooting, it was evident the 28-year-old was out touch.

He missed the open three to take the lead which allowed the Kings to score two from the free-throw line and leave it up to a ‘Curry magic’ moment. As you know, the four-time champion couldn’t convert the last-second shot.

However, just because his teammate missed an important shot doesn’t mean Curry didn’t like what he saw from the ‘springy’ forward. The Warriors’ all-time leading scorer saw the spark in Wiggins and is hopeful he will get better with more reps.

Curry believes Andrew Wiggins will get better

Addressing his teammate’s return, Curry had nothing but good things to say about the All-Star forward. “It was great. He looked good out there, real springy,” said Curry. The 34-year-old further commented, “For him to get his feet wet. You know, that much time off, jump into a playoff series. Like the way you look and know it’s going to continue to get better”

There was just one slight criticism Stephen Curry had for Andrew Wiggins. Unsurprisingly, it was about his 1-8 three-point shooting. “Everything besides his three-point shot was pretty solid” is how Curry summed up the return of his star teammate.

Wiggins got off to a blazing start, scoring 12 quick points to go with 3 blocks. As Curry rightly said, the only area of struggle was shooting from distance. But the Dub Nation and the Baby Face Assassin both know the value the 28-year-old forward brings. It is only a matter of time before it starts clicking for Wiggins. And when it does, this series will be at its peak.
