Recently, a video posted by a fan displaying West dancing outside a 7-eleven took Twitter by storm. While the fans and the NBA world were already aware of the former player’s predicament, the video surely saddened them further. However, the way the Twitter user described her video led many fans to comment angrily on her lack of sensitivity.
I think it was her laugh that really disappointed me, broke my heart a little to see this human choosing a lesser side instead of an inspirational one…

Don’t feed the wrong wolf people.
The video was instantly stormed with responses from fans and other entities including singer Chelsea Korka. The singer noted that she was “really disappointed” by the woman’s laughter in the video.
Fans on social media bothered by the woman’s insensitivity in recording the former player while aware of his situation in the first place were enraged further by her laughter. The woman even said in her video that she “do[es] not believe in recording people when they’re at their lowest but Delonte West is at my 7-Eleven.”
Fans’ reactions to the video portray the influence that players in the NBA, even during a relatively short stint in the league, manage to exert on observers. During and after West’s time with the Mavericks, he had received help for his condition by the team’s owner.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban stepped up to help Delonte multiple times
Though West had only been with the Mavericks for a year, team owner Mark Cuban rushed to help Delonte when he found out about the player’s struggles. The owner helped set up West in a hotel and even offered to pay for his rehabilitation, but the player relapsed. Cuban has stated previously that Delonte was at a point in his life where wanting to help him was not enough and that the former player needed to want to be helped as the first step.
While reactions and responses are still pouring in following the recent video, here are a few fan reactions discouraging the woman’s actions:
Agreed.

Couldn’t agree more. So disappointing. Nobody cares about anyone anymore, unless they line your pockets or apparently provide you “entertainment” value.

“I do not believe in recording people when their at their lowest.” Then proceeds to do exactly that, but aight.

You can’t help those who don’t want to be helped. Cuban tried to get him back right and he fumbled. He’s too far gone at this point.
