Trae Young made his first ever playoffs appearance in 2021 for the Hawks. In the first round, Atlanta would lock horns with the New York Knicks who made it to the post-season for the first time in seven years. The series was one-sided and Young and co. had the last laugh. Since Young then outsmarted the Knicks at the Madison Square Garden, his trip to MSG has ever since been an unwelcome prospect. New York has time and again welcomed the 24-year-old with severe booing.

Recently when the Hawks lost the series against Boston, Young said that the crowds at both MSG and TD Garden are loud and extremely unfriendly. Flash forward to this day. On the recent episode of his podcast, the co-host asked Young to pick his favorite NBA arenas. “I love playing in Atlanta. It’s always rocking in the State Farm. But it’s always rocking in I mean I like the loud cities. I like the loud places. I like the brightest lights. So I mean there’s a couple of places. You know both gardens are in there,” said Trae Young, alluding to Madison Square Garden and TD Garden.

Trae Young, however, is not the only star who loves to play at MSG. In a bygone era, there was a superstar who overlooked the fan fury to play at the ‘Mecca of Basketball.’

For the love of Madison Square Garden

Trae Young is one of many villains in New York’s history. Years back, when Michael Jordan ruled the NBA, the Knicks fans had a similar beef with him. Aware of the storm MJ would bring to New York, they despised the Bulls legend. However, MSG was His Airness’ favorite arena to play ball. Moreover, whenever Jordan visited New York, he came up with some of the greatest displays of his career.
