The eyes of the public are constantly on the kids of superstar athletes. “Will they be the next big thing in the game?”, is a question that keeps popping up. The common assumption is that these kids’ carry the sports gene in them. So following the path of their parent is natural. The same applied to Shaquille O’Neal’s children.
However, a father to 6 children, Shaq never pressurised his children to grow up to be like him. The four-time NBA Champion focused on giving them the freedom to live and figure life out themselves while being at their aid. This principle of parenting included the topic of money as well.

On the latest episode of the ‘Big Podcast’, Shaquille O’Neal, whose net worth is around 600 million dollars, spoke about his children and his style of parenting. While he hopes for his children to explore a variety of professions, some of Shaq’s children are playing college basketball. The segment of the episode was particularly focused on these children who play ball.
Shaquille O’Neal on his style of parenting
While talking about the Big Aristotle’s children, co-host Nischelle Turner asked Shaq if he walked his kids through the ins and outs of college basketball. Shaq had a straightforward answer to the same. He stated that the kids are aware of the knowledge their father has about basketball and particularly college basketball. However, the one-time MVP only informs them about the possibilities and options they have but lets them figure things out themselves.
Shaq claimed that times now are much different from what they were when he was playing ball. For instance, his 16-year-old daughter Me’arah O’Neal has started receiving offer letters.
This was absent during Shaq’s college basketball era. With that said, he is focused on only guiding and being there for them. He said, “I like to let them live a life of trials and tribulations. I don’t want to always put it on a platter for them.”

Shaq continued to claim that he has certain expectations for his children. For example, they are required to have a graduation degree. Additionally, he stated that if his children ever wanted him to invest in their business, they’d have to go through the same steps as any other company or entrepreneur.
