Shaquille O’Neal once revealed that he would evict his sons from his house immediately after they turn 18. On the other hand, his daughters can stay in the house as long as they desired. Subsequently, Shaquille O’Neal proceeded to explain the reason behind such disparate treatment.
Shaq has always underlined the importance of a man’s role as a provider and a protector. In fact, the Big Diesel has always led by example to show his kids what being a man entails. Therefore, he believes that the best way to turn his sons into men would be to expose them to the world’s harshness at an early age.

Shaquille O’Neal revealed the reason he will kick out his sons, but let his daughters stay
In an episode of The Pivot Podcast, Shaquille O’Neal shared his policy regarding the adulting of his kids. “I tell my boys when y’all get 18 you all got to go. Girls can stay as long as they want,” said the Los Angeles Lakers legend.
“I like my girls a little bit better,” he admitted.
According to the four-time NBA champion, his daughters can stay in the house as long as they want and pursue higher education. On the contrary, his sons would have to move out immediately after adulthood and make their own way in the world. Because a man has to learn to fight the world and become a protector and provider for his woman.
In addition, Shaq thinks that his girls are thoughtful, sensitive and caring. Therefore, he trusts them more. On the other hand, his boys are more impulsive and restless.
Shaq and his kids
In 2002, Shaquille O’Neal married Shaunie Nelson. After five years of marriage, the couple briefly separated before reconciling shortly afterwards. In 2009, Shaunie O’Neal filed for divorce, which was finalized in 2011.
The couple has four kids together, Shareef, Shaqir, Amirah, and Me’arah. Shaq also has a daughter from a different relationship, Taahirah.

As it turns out, the NBA legend’s eldest son Shareef is following in his father’s footsteps. In fact, the 22-year-old hooper has recently signed a six-figure deal with NBA G-League Ignite.
Even though Shaq’s disparate treatment of his kids may seem unfair, this is not the first time he has espoused such views.
