Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman began his NBA career with the Detroit Pistons in 1986. At that time, Rodman could not have dreamt of a better side than Detroit to start with. The Pistons? heavily physical and defense-oriented basketball dominated the league in the mid ’80s and they eventually made back-to-back deep runs in the playoffs, winning two consecutive titles in 1989 and 1990. However, the glory days would soon start to fall apart for Rodman and his team in the seasons that followed their two-peat.

It was at this time that Rodman started to face the music for his off-court antics too. Adding insult to injury for the Worm, a key Pistons member who was close to him also walked away from the franchise.

Isiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer and John Salley, among others, quickly come to mind when one thinks of the ‘Bad Boy Pistons’ and their heroics. However, it was veteran head coach Chuck Daly who, courtside, instilled in the ‘Bad Boys’ their zeal to win.

Rodman had so close a bond with Daly that he saw him as a father figure. Having taken the Pistons to nine playoffs and helped them win two rings, Chuck Daly left Detroit in 1992 and joined the New Jersey Nets as their new head coach.

Unsurprisingly, Dennis Rodman was devastated to learn that Daly had called it a day with the Pistons. In his recent appearance on Vlad TV,?Dennis Rodman recalled the impact Daly’s decision had on him. The host refreshed Rodman’s memory – he had then skipped a pre-season camp and had been fined for the same.

Immediately, the Rebound King recalled the turbulent time in his own words, “When Chuck Daly left, man… I couldn’t take that. I sat in my house for, like, four months, I didn’t leave. I had friends come over, bring me food,” said Rodman.

“I was just so pissed. I thought this game was loyalty. I said what the hell, do people screw people like this all time in this sport? I didn’t know about the business. I was thinking of playing, winning. I didn’t know anything about that. Okay great, they let him [Daly] go, for what?”

But for Rodman, the heartbreak didn’t end with Chuck Daly that year.

1992 just got worse for Dennis Rodman

After Dennis Rodman talked about Chuck Daly’s departure, the host asked him if he had indeed got married and then divorced after just 82 days, the same year as Daly’s departure. Thinking of the unfortunate time, Rodman couldn’t help but funnily say, “This Motherf*****,” to the host. He continued, “Yeah, that’s why I got the boys. Married, you know all the stuff like that. Everything just started crumbling from that point on,” Rodman added.
