Following his tenure with the Chicago Bulls, Rodman played for one season with Los Angeles Lakers. Then he went to the Dallas Mavericks. However, his tenure with the Mavs only lasted for a month. For the next few years, Rodman was away from the NBA scene. Nevertheless, the news cycles continued to carry his name. Amidst this buzz, in 2003, Rodman supposedly was planning to make a comeback in the league. But the five-time NBA champion hampered this opportunity himself.
Dennis Rodman and his own actions impeded his NBA return
On October 19th, 2003, Dennis Rodman was in his favorite city of Las Vegas. Whilst he spent time having fun, the manager of a club offered Rodman his motorcycle. The manager said, “Take it for a spin.” A motorcycle enthusiast, Rodman, couldn’t resist the Carlini in front of him. So in the early hours of the day, the Worm hopped on and geared up for a ride.
However, as per reports, Rodman barely had left the parking area. In an adventurous mood, he tried to execute a wheelie. While doing so, he hit a pole and toppled down on the floor. This resulted in a visit to the hospital as Rodman had hurt his shin. Eventually, the seven-time Rebounding champion received 20 stitches, effectively putting in danger his coveted NBA return. To add insult to injury, he was in trouble with the law under suspicions of DUI.
Following this, his agent, Darren Prince spoke to the media. He stated that Rodman is working on himself and knows that he cannot put his life in danger. Before this, NBA teams had shown interest in Dennis Rodman. Plans for him to potentially be a part of their roster were drawn up.
However, after this incident, all deals were off the table. The curtains to his NBA career had finally been shut.
