Nine-year-old Diar DeRozan made headlines following the Chicago Bulls‘ play-in win over the Toronto Raptors. Whenever any player from the Raptors stepped up for a free throw, DeMar DeRozan‘s daughter screamed at the top of her voice. As a result, the Raptors had a horrible shooting percentage in that game. While many praised Diar for her quick thinking, she faced a lot of flak from fans as well. Quite shockingly, the child even received death threats on the Internet and had to be escorted out of the Raptors’ arena. NBA legend Charles Barkley recently chimed in on the incident, calling out NBA fans.
While talking about how the young girl faced death threats, Barkley labeled the perpetrators as ‘evil‘ on the latest episode of The Steam Room podcast.

The Toronto Raptors shot just 50% of their free throws from the foul line during their game against the Chicago Bulls. Diar DeRozan had a huge role to play in that. Whenever any player stepped up, she wailed, and this distracted the players.
While this incident turned her into an overnight sensation, social media toxicity got out of hand. People went as far as sending death threats to the child. Charles Barkley addressed the issue by talking about his hatred for social media. He called out the NBA fans spreading toxicity on the Internet, saying, “DeMar DeRozan’s daughter was getting death threats… This is why I hate social media. What type of person are you?”
The 1993 MVP added that the young girl just wanted her father’s team to win. “What makes you such an evil person that you have to write that down on the Internet? You need to take a hard look at yourself in the mirror,” said Barkley, while talking about the death threats.
Barkley concluded his rant by saying this is exactly why he refuses to indulge in social media. The 60-year-old doesn’t want strangers’ comments to affect his life.
Meanwhile, thanks to Diar and her screaming efforts, the Raptors had their worst shooting performance this season. Moreover, they also missed the most free throws in an elimination game since the Lakers missed 19 in 1969.

Following their 109-105 win over the Raptors, Bulls star DeMar DeRozan was asked to talk about his daughter. Interestingly, it seems like his daughter requested that she skip school and attend the game instead.
“My daughter called me the other day when she was getting out of school and she just said, ‘Dad, can I come to the Toronto game?'” said DeRozan.
Safe to say, skipping a day of school helped the Bulls and DeRozan, as they advanced in the play-in tournament. The Bulls suffered a defeat to Miami Heat in their next play-in match and were eliminated.
