The league is filled with outstanding players and winning the MVP trophy is no joke. However, the Cameroonian basketball star flipped the script with his dominant season. His phenomenal outing: 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists made it easy for the voters to choose him as this season’s MVP. The 29-year-old center player received his award from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver last night before facing the Celtics.

However, a few hours after the ceremony ended, ESPN’s?Tim Bontemps revealed Embiid’s thoughts on his Twitter page. According to Bontemps, the 2x scoring champion said he wasn’t impacted by the pre-game ceremony. However, the six-time All-Star wished for such ceremonies to be conducted after the regular season and before the playoffs.
Joel Embiid said he didn’t think the pregame ceremony impacted him but wished the awards could be handed out during the week between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs instead of getting them during the conference semifinals like he has done.

NBA always announces the name of MVP amid the playoffs but it seems like Embiid would have preferred it more if the timing could be changed. It would be interesting to see if the league gives it some thought.
The Cameroonian gave a wonderful speech at the ceremony during which he credited his son and wife for his success.
Embiid says his son and fiance are the reason behind his success
Embiid shared a heartfelt message after receiving the award and got emotional when his son Arthur – named after his late brother, Arthur Embiid, ran towards him. Despite that, the 29-year-old star continued and said, “Becoming a father changed my whole life and I just want to show him a good example. I’m glad he’s here with us. My fiance, she’s been a big part of it.”
