Six NBA titles within eight years on the court, a billion-dollar fortune off the court, this among a host of achievements is what makes Michael Jordan the epitome of success. However, the Chicago Bulls legend has not been able to replicate this phenomenal success as the owner of the Charlotte Hornets. After back-to-back disappointments as the owner of a washed up franchise, MJ23 has finally decided to sell the Hornets. After the news of the sale spread, Jordan’s critics started to throw light on his failures. As it turns out, Jordan’s critics do not have any intention of stopping their tirades.
Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports is widely popular among NBA fans for his critique of Michael Jordan. When Jordan announced his plan to sell the Hornets, Cowherd did not just criticize Jordan for owning the Hornets. Instead, he used the opportunity to highlight every failure in His Airness’ life. Days after that tirade, Colin Cowherd has again said something about MJ that might not sit well with the fans.

Few days back, Cowherd called out Jordan for failing at his brief late baseball career (after his years with the bulls) while playing for the Wizards. Infuriating MJ fans further, Colin Cowherd made this Scottie Pippen remark, “Take out Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson, this whole Michael Jordan mythology is sort of just that.”?Given the prevalent tension between Jordan and Pippen, such a controversial claim from Cowherd invited tremendous outrage from MJ fans.

Recently, after watching the movie?Air (2023), the media personality has again spoken about Jordan with an allusion to the former POTUS Ronald Reagan. “I thought as I watched the movie, I have been very critical of Michael through the years saying that Nike’s Air Jordan commercials- the greatest domestic commercial ad campaign of my life and it has created almost a Reagan-like shield, a teflon shield around Michael when if you simply acknowledge previous failings, you are considered a hater,”?Cowherd said in his podcast.
Stressing that he has no intention of stopping his critique of the 6x- NBA champion, Colin Cowherd said, “Michael would punch a player and they would say, well he is just very competitive. Draymond Green punches a guy, he should be thrown out of the league.”

When Colin Cowherd called out Michael Jordan’s ‘failures’, he faced the flak and not just from NBA fans. Former Mr Olympia Phil Heath ran to Jordan’s rescue and called out Cowherd for his remarks. Heath said that Cowherd had set the bar so high that any mishap was a failure. Apart from the bodybuilder, former Boston Celtics star Evan Turner also joined sides with MJ against Cowherd. Alluding to the issue,Turner wrote, “This gotta be hate speech.”
Given Colin Cowherd’s back-to-back critique of Michael Jordan, more ‘Reaganesque shields’ are likely to emerge. Moreover, Cowherd might be considered a ‘hater’ for quite some time.
