NBA superstars tend to live very comfortable and luxurious lives, generally speaking. People might think that their multi-million dollar contracts are enough to ensure their and their families’ happiness for eternity. However, not everyone’s life can be jolly all the time, even with the presence of money, fame and abundance. Grief and heartbreak can affect even the wealthiest of people. One such superstar recently opened up about the sacrifices and tough decisions he has had to make in his life. Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard recently left an emotional note for his fans that has prompted touching reactions from fans.

Lillard faced a lot of hardship in his life and understandably had to push through it to be a top player in the league. Recently the superstar decided to tell a little bit about what he goes through on a daily basis.

Lillard has been a top player since the time he set foot in the league over a decade ago. Before he was Portland’s legend, the Oakland kid used to rap in his cousin’s car, dreaming of being a rapper. Dame Dolla had a pretty rough childhood, as he saw the unforgiving side of the world pretty early.

However, as time goes by, people move forward and Lillard has attempted the same. In his recent Instagram story, he hinted at how difficult it has been to move on from some parts of his childhood days, cutting some people off from the past.

Everybody talks about cutting people off.. but nobody talks about the grief that comes with having to stand firm on that decision knowing it’s not what you wanted but what was necessary for your well-being,” Lillard’s Instagram story read.

Lillard might have had to cut a lot of people off, as his childhood in Oakland was really tough. The superstar had to bid adieu to a lot of loved ones in his life and his hardships explain his decisions in life.

Back when Lillard was just a child, he was held at gunpoint as three individuals tried to rob him while he was coming back from practice. While remembering the incident, Lillard said how he was in “shock” and couldn’t “process” what was happening in front of him. It was a scarring moment for a child, and since then Lillard has faced a lot of adversity. But his father has made sure that he was always protected from it.

Although Lillard was safe on that day, it wasn’t the only scarring incident that he faced. According to a report from The Athletic a couple of years ago, he witnessed a lot since COVID started. The report mentioned how he lost an aunt of cancer, discovered the dead bodies of his cousin and his personal chef, and lost a cousin to murder in West Oakland.

However, his father and best friend Houston Lillard Sr. played a major role in keeping him away from any and all distractions. Lillard Sr. was aware how wrong decisions could affect his life and didn’t want such a life for his son.
