Things are seemingly going well for the Dallas Mavericks this season. Currently placed fourth in the Western Conference, the Mavs just won seven games in a row bringing their tally to 22-16. Additionally, their best player, Luka Doncic, is one of the top prospects for the MVP title of this season. Evidently, the Mavs are making sure the team remains one of the top contenders as they maintain a strong roster surrounding Doncic. As per new reports, the Mavs might offer a contract extension to one of Doncic’s teammates. While the reports are yet to be confirmed, the contract value has nevertheless prompted reactions from fans.

Luka Doncic is currently leading the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 34.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game. The 23-year-old Mavs superstar is having a significantly great season as he smashed several records one after the other. On the other hand, the Mavs are looking for potential NBA stars who can compliment Doncic well in the court. Consequently, a particular Mavs star, who is also considered the second best player in the team after Doncic, might stick around following a contract extension to help Doncic out.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks might offer a two-year contract extension to Christian Wood that can be worth up to $36 million. Wood is one of the best players in the Mavs roster and is well-synced with the team’s star player Luka Doncic. Wood is averaging 17.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, making him an asset to the franchise. The Mavs center has been in the league for about eight years and has already played for seven different NBA teams to date. After the Mavs acquired him in 2022, Wood had expressed his willingness to consider a contract extension if the Mavs offered one.

“I’m happy to be here. That’s what I’ll say. The vibe is good? I’m open to it,” Wood told ESPN.

In case Wood does not agree to Mavs’ offer, the 27-year-old center player will become a free agent in 2023. While both parties are yet to confirm the contract extension rumors, NBA fans are not too happy with the amount offered. According to the comments dropped by Twitterati, many felt that Wood was worth more than $36 million. Below are a few of the comments.
