The recent decision by Michael Jordan to sell his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets has raised concerns about the lack of success the team saw during MJ?s ownership. Despite being an NBA legend, Jordan’s tenure as an owner has been characterized by inconsistency and disappointment, as per analysts and fans alike.

These claims have been also been backed by the team?s record so far. The Hornets have only managed to post a winning record four times in the last 17 seasons and have made the playoffs in just three, losing in the first round each time they did. Amidst everything that has been going on with the Hornets and the film Air, sports reporter Colin Cowherd made a bold statement appreciating Michael Jordan‘s life – after speaking about MJ’s “failure” in some other respects.

National sports personality Colin Cowherd recently went so far as to call Jordan’s ownership a failure, citing his lack of success in other ventures, such as baseball and ownership of the Washington Wizards. While Jordan’s legacy as a player is legendary, his ownership of the Hornets, which he relinquished recently, has been far from successful.

Colin Cowherd, in a recent conversation on his podcast with Sam Smith – the longtime Chicago Bulls writer – expressed his admiration for Michael Jordan and the appeal of his journey in the sport of basketball. He compared Jordan’s legacy to that of current players, stating that the path to success is not as difficult as it was for Jordan. Cowherd also appreciated the privacy Jordan maintained, even as an owner of the Charlotte Hornets.

Cowherd says, ?One of the things that is attractive about Michael…I couldn’t watch a 10-part Brady or Lebron documentary…You know Michael as we peel the layers back on Michael and the Air movie, I didn’t know that much about him because we didn’t know that much about anybody and that I think what makes Michael appealing to me.?

Cowherd discussed the impact of social media and how it has changed the way fans consume information about players. He acknowledged that social media has allowed fans to learn more about players and their personal lives, but he also emphasized how it takes away the appeal from a player’s journey. “Social media has shown me all I ever need to see about any player – what they eat, their family, their opinions on vaccines, their political opinions.”

Cowherd talks about MJ?s public life

Cowherd and Smith spoke about how private MJ has been in comparison to players these days. Cowherd claimed that the few of Jordan?s struggles that are know were fascinating to him, such as his relationship with Jerry Crow and Sonny Vaccaro as dealt with in Air and the reputed toughness of his mother.

Cowherd added that Jordan’s journey in basketball was not as easy as it is today, with everyone friends with each other and battling for a piece of the same pie. He said that the Amateur Athletic Unions are more organized today, and that Jordan’s struggle, although not exceptionally greater than others’, was still compelling.
