Earlier this week, WNBA Star Brittney Griner spoke to the basketball community via a post on Instagram. She expressed her gratitude to her wife, family, and supporter for advocating her release from Russia. The WNBA star added, “It feels so good to be home”. While many sighed in relief after the post, some continued to voice their displeasure. Amidst the debate and discussion around her return, Hollywood actress Claudia Jordan exposed a painful side of the situation.

Notably, Brittney Griner’s release was a result of a prisoner swap. The Biden Administration offered the release of a notorious Russian arms dealer, Viktor Bout, in return for Griner and ex-marine Paul Whelan. However, as per reports, Russia only agreed to send Griner back home. A basketball player for a merchant of death, a chunk of the public deemed this exchange to be unfair. As heated arguments come in from some people, members of the basketball community and Hollywood continue to support Griner. And Claudia Jordan was one of them.

On her talk show, Cocktails with Queens, Jordan spoke about Griner’s post. While she and her co-hosts discussed how heartwarming it was to see Griner return, they also pointed out the public’s negative reaction. They questioned why Griner’s release couldn’t be celebrated without having to include Paul Whelan in the narrative.

Jordan said, “It’s almost like we weren’t allowed to only celebrate the release of a black woman. It had to have a but after”. For them, living in the moment was a lost concept in this situation. She then stated that on the talk show, they would focus on only celebrating Griner for the time being.

Following this, Jordan made a point about Griner’s wife. She said, “I feel like the wife was made to feel guilty to just celebrate her wife being out”.?Jordan’s co-host Vivica Fox agreed with this and said, “When she did the speech in Washington DC it was like the next thing that she said how happy we are but we also will use our platform to advocate for the release of Paul Whelan”.?

The actresses, on the show, called for people to celebrate Griner instead of criticizing the situation. They pointed out that the Biden administration asked for the return of both Americans. However, the Russians only offered to give up the Phoenix Mercury star. Jordan strongly believed that Russia held Whelan back for ulterior motives. She claimed they want to use his card to demand “something else” from the US government.
