Former NBA champion Kevin Love has the whole NBA world talking about him currently. Days after the trade deadline ended, reports have revealed that the Cleveland Cavaliers and Love are nearing a buyout. This allows him to sign with any team in the next few days. Among the various teams interested in the 5 time NBA All-Star, the Golden State Warriors have emerged as a potential destination for love. Klay Thompson is one of the biggest reasons why this deal might come to fruition.

According to the recent update surrounding Love, it seems Thompson and the Cavs star are childhood friends. Moreover, with the Warriors still active in the market, it seems this is a win-win for both parties.

Despite playing an instrumental role in the Cleveland Cavaliers only NBA title win in 2016, it seems Kevin Love’s time with the team is nearing its end. The 34-year-old has not played for quite some time with the coach preferring other younger options.

Interestingly, he is the only surviving member of the 2016 Cavs team which beat the Golden State Warriors in the final. The Dubs might potentially land the 2010-11 NBA Most Improved Player in the coming days. Klay Thompson, a player he beat in the finals, will play an instrumental role if the Dubs actually go for him.

The report read, “Warriors also interested in Kevin Love, sources say. Love a childhood friend of Klay Thompson. He is seeking buyout with Cavs and one is coming.”

Not only the Warriors, but the Miami Heat are also interested in Kevin Love. The Heat have a thin roster and would like to add a backup center to their team. This would give much-needed rest and competition to Bam Adebayo.

The Warriors once almost signed Love

The Golden State Warriors big three of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson could have been dissolved during the 2014-15 season. The team wanted to bring in Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

However, the deal fell off because the Timberwolves demanded Thompson from the Dubs. While the Warriors were considering the deal, NBA legend Jerry West advised them not to. Thompson ended up staying and won four NBA titles in the process. On the other hand, the Cavs brought in Love and he helped them to a legendary NBA title in 2016.
