The 8x All-Star was distraught after the game. As per Dave McMenamin, Davis said the Lakers felt “cheated” by the officials. He suggested that the league should fine referees for missed calls to improve accountability.
NBA fans on Twitter backed Davis’ comments and bashed the officials. Here are some of the best reactions:
100% agree. What other job doesn’t reprimand you for making mistakes..?
It is ridiculous that there are no consequences for refs who carry SO much power.

They should fine and suspend the referees. It happens in other sports.

Imagine having a two min report and never having accountability, human error aside

Should no longer be a suggestion, demand change. Otherwise no change will happen. pic.twitter.com/CBEI0bXyHc

He’s spot on. There is no accountability for officiating
What is that was a Game 7 in the finals? They should be fined/suspended or make most of their compensation based on how well they perform
Refs should be graded every game

And the crazy thing is, they’ll fine him for saying this and continue to let refs off the hook even after multiple officials have been caught rigging games

It’s literally true but the nba still gets butthurt and will fine every laker player that mentions the refs cause they believe refs can do NO HARM

Fine and suspended. They got cheated all night. Horrible for the players and the fans.

The Lakers had the final possession of the game with 4 seconds left on the clock. As LeBron James drove to the basket, he was fouled by Jayson Tatum. However, the referees missed the obvious call which left the whole Lakers team raging. Patrick Beverley even showed the replay of the play to the officials on camera which earned him a technical foul.
Eventually, the Celtics ran away with the game in OT as the Lakers looked exhausted and frustrated. Along with Davis, LeBron, head coach Darwin Ham and many others condemned the officiating during the game. James called it “weird” that he didn’t get the calls that other stars in the league get. Ham asked for consistency from the officials.
