The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, also known as March Madness, has captured the attention of basketball fans as usual over the past few weeks. Since the beginning of March, fans across the country have been glued to their screens, cheering on their favorite teams as they battle it out for a shot at the national title. However, not everyone is happy with how the tournament has played out this year. One of the most vocal critics of this year’s March Madness is NBA legend Charles Barkley and he did not hold back while sharing his opinions.

As the finals are right around the corner, fans are very excited to see who comes out on top. Charles Barkley has been sharing his favorites to win it all during his March Madness analysis on TNT. But Barkley is more concerned about the issues that are surrounding college sports. He has been critical of the larger issues plaguing college ball and continues to do so.

Known for his candid opinions, Barkley has not held back in his criticism of the tournament. According to the report in CBS news, the 11-time All-Star expressed his frustration with how the NCAA has handled college sports in recent years.

“It’s a travesty and a disgrace, I’m so mad now how we can mess up somethin’ that’s so beautiful,” said Barkley.  When asked to elaborate on his comments, Barkley pointed to the issue of paying players. In recent years, there has been a growing debate over whether or not college athletes should be paid for their contributions to their respective teams.

Some argue that these athletes bring in millions of dollars for their schools, and therefore should be compensated for their hard work. Others, however, argue that paying college athletes would ruin the amateur status of college sports and could create an unfair playing field.

Barkley falls firmly in the latter camp. He believes that paying college athletes would lead to a wild west of college sports, where only the schools with the most money would be able to attract the best players. As Barkley said, “We can’t pay all these players. In the next three to five years, we’re gonna have 25 schools that’s gonna dominate the sports ’cause they can afford players, and these schools who can’t afford or won’t pay players are gonna be irrelevant.”

Despite his frustration with the NCAA, Barkley still recognizes the excitement and beauty of March Madness. He has been following the tournament closely and has strong opinions on each of the Final Four teams. However, it seems like he has taken a u-turn on his sentiment that ‘nobody can mess up March Madness’.

In the second matchup, UConn, another traditional powerhouse with four national titles to their name, will face Miami, a team making its first-ever Final Four appearance. UConn has a strong defensive unit that has limited opponents to just 60.8 points per game in the tournament, while Miami is led by their 73-year-old coach Jim Larranaga and is a well-rounded team that plays both offense and defense well.
