Another season of horrors might just be upon the Los Angeles Lakers. After losing their first three games of the season, the most successful franchise in the league hasn’t appropriately started off their redemption season. Damian Lillard was able to tear down the defense en route to his game-winning 41-point night for the Portland Trail Blazers to spoil the moment of happiness for the Lakers. However, there was one man in particular who enjoyed their downfall perhaps more than others. That is none other than Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce.
The Lakers- Celtics rivalry is undoubtedly one of the most iconic sports rivalries of all time. Both franchises sit on top of the NBA when it comes to the most banners in their arenas. With 17 a piece, each of them is looking to be the undisputed king of the basketball world. On one end, a young Celtics roster was just two games short of living the dream last season. However, for the purple and gold, they missed out on the post-season altogether.

Despite those struggles, they made no major changes in the off-season. And the decisions are seemingly stinging them now. With three losses on the trot, Pierce used his old teammate, Kendrick Perkins to add salt to the Lakers’ wound.
Paul Pierce reignites the Celtics-Lakers rivalry by pushing his teammate into the fire
If there is arguably one thing that Pierce enjoys more than a Celtics win is a Los Angeles Lakers loss. As their misery from last season continues, the Truth’s smile likely grows wider. The former Boston Celtics man saw right through them and didn’t hold back. However, his methods to burn his arch-rivals were surely new. Notably, Kendrick Perkins became a victim of the cause. Pierce used his former teammate’s signature style to celebrate yet another Lakers collapse.
The 10-time NBA All-Star took to Twitter and said: “The LAKERS TEAM IS BUILT WORSE THAN KENDRICK PERKINS CARRY ON”. Pierce might have put Perkins under the bus for picking Anthony Davis of the Lakers to win the MVP this season.

In his 20th season, LeBron James put in his all with 31 points and 8 assists, including a vintage display in the clutch. However, his mammoth efforts were overshadowed by the coming of Dame Time. Damian Lillard’s 41 points led the way for a comeback win. The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Lakers 106-104 to set up their third consecutive win of the season.

The biggest weakness for the Lakers undoubtedly remains the absence of shooters as they shot just 18% from beyond the arc against the Trail Blazers. Despite the clear hurdle, the Lakers weren’t convinced to pull any strings just yet. Now, the results might just be a hint to make the necessary changes with all their resources.
Judging from the three games so far, do you think the Lakers will be able to challenge for the title this season? Let us know your views in the comments below.
