After a disappointing end to the previous season, the Los Angeles Lakers rebuilt their side. The franchise brought in more experienced talent, and is banking on their veterans to deliver next year. One of the key acquisitions has been that of Carmelo Anthony. The 37-year-old will join a packed Lakers roster, and knows how important the upcoming season is.

LA Lakers acquire Carmelo Anthony in 2021 off-season

Carmelo Anthony has spent close to two decades in the league. After a stint with the Portland Trail Blazers, he signed a one-year deal with the men in yellow. The experienced star was a free agent before Aaron Mintz completed the signing with Lakers’ manager Rob Pelinka. Anthony agreed to personal terms with the side, and will play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis for at least a year.

Being a prolific shooter, ‘Melo’ will play a vital role with Frank Vogel and co. He is likely to command the long-distance shooting of the side, and could also come off the bench. The NBA All-star plays as a forward, and has averaged up to 29 points per game in his prime. Though he is not at that level currently, these are positive signs for the Lakers.

Anthony details why the 2021-22 season is important for him

Over the years, the Denver Nuggets legend has always maintained a consistent level. He has considered every game and every season equally important. However, in a recent interview, Carmelo broke down the importance of his season with the Lakers that is fast approaching. Speaking on ‘The Million Dollaz Worth of Game’ podcast, he analyzed how essential it is to grab your opportunities with both hands.

“This is probably the most important season ever,” said Anthony. “I don’t have important seasons, but this one right here, because I know what’s at stake. Although fans are looking forward to watch the trio of James, Davis and Carmelo in action, this brings added expectations. He continued, “It ain’t no pressure, but I know what’s at stake. And if we don’t take advantage of this, you don’t get moments like this in life. Especially in sports.”
