The Lakers are practicing in full swing ahead of their preseason opener against the Brooklyn Nets. Not surprisingly, the coaching staff led by Frank Vogel is leaving no stones unturned in sharpening their swords. And with such intense practice, Carmelo Anthony became the victim of a small blow.

LeBron James called the entire roster to a Las Vegas mini-camp even before the official practices began. After it concluded, the team started with the official training camp after their media day. Turns out Melo got his first taste of practising with a champion team on a rather pricking note.

Did Carmelo Anthony injure his eyes?

In a recent press conference, Carmelo Anthony answered everything from his new experience to the speculations around his retirement. But while doing all of that, he was constantly rubbing his left eye. So a reporter asked him if there’s something wrong with that eye.

The 10x All-Star jokingly responded, “Ya, ask Anthony Davis, man! AD trying to take me out early. A little [indiscernible] that’s it.” Perhaps AD blocked one of Melo’s layup attempts and poked him in the eye in the process. But that’s just a wild guess because a smiling Melo didn’t reveal anything else.

In hindsight, this injury seems similar to how AD injured his eye during the practice game against Orlando Magic in 2020. It was Canadian Khem Birch who had mistakenly slapped The Brow’s face in that game.

One can take the idea of the intensity of the training from the fact that as many as four players will miss the preseason opener against the Nets. Yes, Melo included. In fact, AD will also play restricted minutes in that October 3rd game.

Under Phil Handy’s guidance, the Lakers did very efficient training in the last three days. Dwight Howard’s dunks, DeAndre Jordan’s alley-oops, and Bron/AD’s passing practise marked the training. Rajon Rondo, Wayne Ellington, and Talen Horton worked on their shooting while Melo practised defense against Russell Westbrook.
