The Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas woke up one fine Friday morning and decided to give his two cents on the state of the modern NBA. A league which considers him to be one of the best to ever do it isn’t that appealing to Thomas anymore for various reasons. Thomas’ Bad Boy Pistons were not named that on a whim. The Detroit side was one of the fiercest teams in the history of the league, and their gameplay was intensely physical, to a point of exhaustion. Meanwhile, Isiah Thomas, the leader of the Bad Boy Pistons, isn’t quite happy with the current state of the league. Fans seemed to agree unanimously as the two-time NBA champion recently listed his reservations regarding the modern NBA.
Thomas discarded the notion of the current NBA era having the best offense by flipping the argument. His stance took a dig at the lackluster defense in today’s game. Fans readily agreed with the legend while going down memory lane.

The Pistons legend didn’t mince any words as he dissed the whole style of defense in the current era in a recent tweet. “If this is some of the best individual offense we have seen in the NBA then this is some of the worst individual defense we have seen in the NBA,” Thomas proclaimed. He is of the opinion that the offense of the NBA looks good due to the bad defense in the league. Fans weren’t the ones to disagree, especially those who have lived in the era of the Bad Boy Pistons. On the contrary, they supported Thomas’ statement and expressed similar sentiments.
Here are some of the reactions from fans:
Literally can’t touch anyone. No physical play. It’s sad. So many will never know what bball used to be like and just how amazing it really was! pic.twitter.com/2dokvAkmNz

Please let them know! No concepts in the game on defense

NBA wanted the excitement of street ball, without the flash of street ball. Took away the defense of the league. Let people carry and travel. No real fundamentals.

Is it the worst individual defense? Or is it just the newer rules producing this kind of individual defensive pressure. Not sure.

NBA needs to bring back hand checking. These kids are just too damn good to stop with today's rules. Let them play real D again.

Some fans also were of the opinion that the rules have changed a lot contributing to this style. Hardly anyone can disagree with the fact, as Thomas and co. played their best basketball over three decades ago.
However rough they may be, they were really good, especially since they gave a run for the money to one of the greatest in the game, Michael Jordan. His Airness wasn’t fond of the Pistons and for good reasons too. For numerous years they were the biggest roadblocks in the path to glory for the Chicago Bulls.
The Pistons were a team that nobody could take lightly, even the best in the world. Teams had to be well-prepared to face them irrespective of their form.

The domination of the Detroit Pistons over the years
The Pistons were not just party poopers, they were championship material. They beat the best of the teams and players during their two NBA title runs in 1989 and 1990. Their rivalry with the Chicago Bulls had a lasting effect on Michael Jordan and the Bulls.

The Pistons’ DNA never really washed off. Years later in the 2004 NBA Finals, they halted the Los Angeles Lakers to under 70-points for the first time in NBA playoffs history.
