Kyrie Irving was back in the Brooklyn Nets starting lineup today after two games. He put up 27 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds in the loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Notably, Nets are missing former MVP Kevin Durant in their squad due to a left knee sprain. During the post game interview, Kyrie opened up about the struggles of not being able to play along with Harden and Durant at the same time.

Kyrie discussed the “hiccups and uncontrollable things” that prevent the Nets from being what they intend to be. He called out the incident that occurred in the playoffs last year, where he landed on Giannis’ foot and injured his ankle in Game 4 of the series. The 29-YO said with scepticism, “His foot just happens to be in the way?!”

Kyrie, a.k.a., Uncle Drew further elaborated on the situation that they are battling with this year. On one hand, there is his inability to play all games because of his vaccination status. On the other hand, Kevin Durant is now probably out for 4-6 weeks following his sprained knee. Kyrie, hence put forth the opinion that these are times where real life takes precedence over NBA games.

Now, he can play in almost all games except the ones in New York and Toronto as players are required to be vaccinated to play in those cities. However, the Nets can find a way around the restriction in New York by paying $5000 fine every time Kyrie plays. Albeit, this comes with a multitude of other problems as people have already started raising concerns regarding this loophole.
It remains to be seen whether the Nets can actually win games with a constantly changing lineup. Harden has borne the weight of carrying the team in the past. If he can do it again, perhaps Nets can still view themselves as a championship contender. It is certain however, that whenever they face Giannis and the bucks next, it is going to be an incredible matchup.
