Controversial WNBA star Brittney Griner will finally return to the hardwood in the next few months for the Phoenix Mercury. With the WNBA season still a few months away, the Mercury have posted a positive new update. After spending a long time in a Russian penal colony and her subsequent release, BG has started training. She missed the entirety of last season and has stepped on a basketball court after quite a long time. Interestingly, she also has a new look.

Fans might remember Griner for her long dreadlocks. However, the dreads are gone, and the basketball star has a new hairstyle. Interestingly, fans on Twitter have found an uncanny resemblance between Griner’s new style and the two NBA stars.

Brittney Griner had a very tough last year. The 7-time WNBA All-Star was arrested on the 17th of February, 2022, and a long legal battle ensued. Finally, after months of negotiation and court battles, Griner was back in the United States of America on the 10th of December, 2022.

The Phoenix Mercury recently posted a snapshot of Griner working out in the training facilities. Griner’s new look shares a resemblance with Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker and Brooklyn Nets’ Ben Simmons, which was pointed out by fans on Twitter. Interestingly, both Simmons and Booker dated Kendall Jenner at one point.

As the above reactions suggest, fans were quick to call out the resemblance between the three basketball stars. Interestingly, some fans also pointed out how Griner looks like the newest Clipper, Russell Westbrook.

When will Griner make her WNBA comeback?

The WNBA pre-season commences on May 5th, 2023, and Griner is expected to play the full season. She was a free agent and recently re-signed with the team that drafted her in 2013.

Interestingly, Griner followed the steps of Michael Jordan and similarly announced her comeback. In a note found in the locker room, she wrote, “I am back MF!! #42.” The Bulls legend said this iconic phrase during an announcement in 1995 after a brief hiatus from basketball.
