Former WNBA star Glory Johnson opened up about her brief but tumultuous marriage with WNBA star Brittney Griner in an interview following their very public separation. The 32-year-old detailed how her marriage with the Phoenix Mercury star turned south within less than a month of their wedding. Johnson also claimed that she had never been with women before and didn’t think of herself as gay despite agreeing to marry Brittney Griner.
Griner and Johnson announced their engagement in 2014. In April 2015, the police had to visit the couple’s Arizona residence in response to a domestic violence call. Both Griner and Johnson had sustained minor injuries following a physical altercation.

However, the couple reconciled shortly after and got married a couple of weeks later in May. In June, they announced that Johnson is expecting a new arrival after going through an IVF procedure. The next day, Brittney Griner would file for an annulment after less than a month of marriage.
Glory Johnson detailed her failed marriage with Brittney Griner
According to Glory Johnson, she married Brittney Griner despite not sharing her sexual orientation. In other words, she married her partner out of sheer love. “It wasn?t about other people. It was about us“, she stated.
As it turns out, the former Dallas Wings player felt betrayed by her former spouse’s actions. In other words, her life with Griner turned out to be much different than what she had been promised. “You can call me stupid for believing her, but I trusted this person,” Johnson explained.
Incidentally, the couple’s relationship soured as Griner pleaded guilty to the domestic violence charges against her, but Johnson didn’t. As a result, the 31-year-old WNBA star had to spend 26 weeks in counseling.
Meanwhile, Johnson gave birth to her twins prematurely in October of the same year. As it turns out, Griner denied her involvement in the IVF procedure and Johnson had to undergo serious financial hardships. The couple’s divorce was finalized in June 2016.

In June 2019, Griner married her current wife, Cherelle Watson. Later on, Watson changed her name to Griner’s last name.
Griner’s future after sentencing
Brittney Griner is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence in Russia. Earlier this year, the Russian authorities detained her after discovering vape cartridges and cannabis oil in her belongings.
