Meanwhile, BG’s lawyers Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov issued a statement after they visited the Mordovian penal colony. They finally met with the WNBA star after weeks of isolation.

Brittney Griner is holding up in tough circumstances

Griner’s attorneys confirmed that she had begun serving her sentence at IK-2 in Mordovia. A statement from the Phoenix Mercury center revealed that she was trying to stay strong and learn to adapt to the new environment, where conditions are harsh and inhumane. Furthermore, her lawyers said that Brittney Griner was “doing as well as could be expected.”

Meanwhile, BG’s attorneys refrained from disclosing further details considering the fact that she was dealing with very challenging times. Nevertheless, the updates about Griner’s current state would be a sigh of relief for her loved ones and supporters.

BG has received no relief from the Russian legal system. Hence, all hopes for Griner’s freedom now lie in the prisoner swap deal proposed by the US State Department earlier in July.

Russia finally responds to prisoner swap offer

Recently, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, gave a positive response to the prisoner swap deal. The Russian official suggested that the Kremlin was interested in bringing Viktor Bout back home. The Biden Administration had proposed to release the convicted arms dealer in exchange for Griner and Whelan.
