WNBA star Brittney Griner is one of the best players in the league. Her size and athleticism gave her a huge advantage over her opponents in the WNBA. Her dominance was even more evident during her time at Baylor University. She looked like a woman among girls while playing college basketball and dominated on both ends of the court. As per reports, Griner’s hands are bigger than NBA superstars LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Also, her wingspan was bigger than veteran NBA center Andrew Bynum.

After dominating the college scene for four years and winning a national title, Griner declared for the WNBA draft. Interestingly, Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks suggested he would have “no problem whatsoever” drafting her to play in the NBA. “If she is the best on the board, I will take her,” Cuban said. This certainly shocked a lot of people.

After Cuban’s comments, Griner stated she is ready for the challenge on Twitter. However, Cuban did not draft her to the Mavericks. But can she compete against the men in the NBA?

Brittney Griner thought she could beat an NBA superstar

The Phoenix Mercury drafted Brittney Griner as the #1 pick in the 2013 WNBA draft. After she was drafted, LeBron James compared her to all-time great Wilt Chamberlain because of the way she dominated college basketball. She gave the Mercury instant success by helping them win the title in 2014. And her confidence grew.

In 2016, she claimed she would beat NBA superstar DeMarcus Cousins in a one-on-one game. Keep in mind, Cousins was not just another player. At the time he was consistently averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds. When other stars were asked about their view of Griner’s claims, they gave their honest opinion. “I like the confidence BG. But I don’t know if that’s gonna happen,” Kevin Durant said.

Cousins’ comments were even more brutal. Clearly, Cousins was very athletic, quick, and skilled. Also, he was a superstar who dominated his opponents on a regular basis for fun. In the 2015-16 season, Cousins averaged 26.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game for the Sacramento Kings. So he would believe he would have no problem facing Griner in a game of one-on-one. Draymond Green also stated Cousins would win the game.
