Brittney Griner has been fighting for her individuality since the early days of her life. She was often bullied for being different. Even she could not understand why she was not like other kids, often leaving her distressed. However, the two-time Olympic gold medalist continued on her journey to discover herself and become a renowned WNBA star. Back in 2014, Griner talked about bringing out her inner LeBron James to use her most lethal weapon during the game for the Baylor University team.

Griner released her memoir, In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court in 2014. In one of the chapters, BG shared how she embraced herself and eventually revealed her most lethal weapon in front of the world. The Phoenix Mercury center aimed to take three strong dunks during a game in college. She got so excited after her first dunk that she ended up making a tweet during halftime to involve the Baylor crowd on the team’s home court.

Brittney Griner walked out will her spirits high and a challenge for herself in her mind. Later in the second half, BG got her chance and made two more dunks within a minute to seal the game. Soon after, former Baylor coach Kim Mulkey took her out of the game as they were winning comfortably.

Brittney Griner reveals her lethal weapon

Brittney Griner was highly impressed by her third and final dunk. She grabbed a rebound in the lane with three defenders around her. Despite the tight defense, she went up and brilliantly made a one-handed reverse dunk.

Years after in her book, Griner stated that she never made such a dominating shot previously in her career. BG reckoned that she would rather have pump-faked or tried a hook shot as she was worried about showing off her power in front of the world.

Brittney Griner stated, “You think guys ever worry about the staff? I’m afraid to dunk this ball because people might think I’m too strong. I can’t imagine LeBron James ever has those thoughts in his head, but I did on occasion.”

The eight-time All-Star had fears about showing off her real strengths on the basketball court. She occasionally felt insecure about looking extremely powerful.

However, the moment turned out to be pivotal for Griner as she embraced herself and continued to dominate the hardwood. As a result, the 2014 WNBA champ was picked up as the first overall pick by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2013 Drafts.
