Brittney Griner has now been detained in Russia for over five months. She has become an unfortunate victim of circumstance. Griner was playing in the Russian league for BC UMMC Ekaterinberg and was caught at the Sheremetyevo International Airport as she was carrying hash cartridges in her luggage. She is being used as leverage by the Russian government in response to sanctions put by the United States of America.
Many experts are worried that it would be difficult to free Griner out of Russia. Her wife, Cherelle has called her a “political pawn” on Good Morning America. Griner pleaded guilty to all charges but said that there was no criminal intent.
But her arrest has even made some people happy. Conservative author and Donald Trump supporter Nick Adams, who is known for making outlandish statements, is in favor of keeping the WNBA star detained. Adams has previously targeted other players too including LeBron James. He told the legendary player to go to Russia for criticizing Trump. His hate for LeBron James is such that he once said James should be looked at as a “communist traitor”.
