The Los Angeles Lakers and a smooth sailing 2021-22 NBA campaign just don’t seem to go hand in hand. The team that has built a roster filled with some of the greatest names in the NBA, is not looking as good on the court as they were on paper. And if their chemistry issues weren’t enough, their injury problems do the needful. In their last game against Oklahoma City Thunder too, Anthony Davis suffered an injury in his right thumb.
This is the second time that the Lakers have lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, and hold a 5-4 record as of now. However, his injury couldn’t come at a more worst time because the team has a vital game against Blazers. Despite being needed, Davis has been listed as questionable for the game because the Lakers can’t afford to take any chances and risk him missing another season.
In fact, AD feels the same way. In an interview, Frank Vogel explained Davis’ mindset at the moment. “I know this year he’s really upset with how last year went and how much time he missed. So everything that is 50/50 on whether he’ll be in our out thus far this year, it’s been ‘I’m playing unless I absolutely can’t play.’

“He was upset with how much time he missed last year, so if he can play without major limitations, he’s going to be there. And in terms of the other night (and him returning for the second half) I really love those decisions up to the medical team and the player, whether they can go or not.”

Davis has had a good start to the new season. He is already averaging 25.4 points and 11.9 rebounds. The Lakers’ victory in other recent games has a lot to do with AD’s contribution. So, the probability of him missing the game against the Portland Trail Blazers is keeping fans on an edge.
The collision that led to AD’s injury in the second quarter against OKC, left fans feeling extremely anxious. However, when he did return to play, they were cheering for him in the stands and he even claimed that his thumb was completely fine.
The purple and gold are already without superstar LeBron James, who has missed three games until now and will be missing more because of an abdominal strain. Sadly, the chances of AD not being present for their game against the Blazers is high to make sure that no serious damage is done. Unless he is 100% fit or AD keeps his determination to play the way Vogel described, he could still show up.
