Popular professional athletes make millions of dollars throughout their careers. Even after retiring from their respective sports, the athletes tend to cash in big checks through sponsorships and advertisements. This eventually results in big alimony and child support payments after they decide to part ways with their partner or baby mother. Another NBA star turned analyst recently went through a similar fate, which prompted unfiltered support from a former NFL star, after reports of the legal proceedings spread through the Internet.

Former Los Angeles Lakers player Matt Barnes was married to actress and celebrity Gloria Govan. The two were married from 2013 to 2016 and have two children together as well. However, the couple decided to end things in late 2016. Recently, Matt Barnes was ordered by the court to pay $133k to Govan in child support payments.

According to reports, Barnes has not been regular with his child support payments after his monthly payments were reduced from $20,000 to $7500 per month. As a result, the ex-NBA player was ordered to pay his wife $133,976.54 in child support.

Former NFL Star turned FS1 analyst Marcellus Wiley came to Barnes’ aid in his recent podcast. While reading the TMZ report, Wiley said,I just think this dynamic is interesting. Right? For one, I see Matt all the time, our sons play basketball at the same facility.”

I see Matt in the morning. It seems like his boys are always with him but that doesn’t hold up in a court of law. I’m thinking of some of Matt’s defenses right now. This one is like, ‘they always with me, then why am I paying her? I take care of everything when they with me obviously,’” added Wiley.

The former NFL star added how the court of law still required Barnes to pay child support of $7500 every month. Regardless of the fact that his kids spend most of their time with him.

Therefore, Wiley advised people to pay their child support timely after getting things sorted out in court to avoid huge payments later on. The 48-year-old highlighted the double standards present in the whole process, while stressing the importance of not delaying it.
