The Boston Celtics hosted the Brooklyn Nets in their recent matchup of the season. Two of the top-tier teams of the Eastern Conference battled it out on the floor, but it was Boston that went home with a lop-sided victory. However,? a certain incident went viral on social media. A video of Boston fans stomping on Kyrie Irving?s Celtics jersey from when he played for the team was shared online. This led to fans on social media concluding that Celtics fans still held a grudge against Irving after all these years.?

It has been four years since Kyrie Irving left the Boston Celtics to play for the Brooklyn Nets. Though, the departure of Irving from the Celtics was arguably as ugly as it could be with fans being absolutely irate with his decision.

The Boston Celtics took down the Brooklyn Nets, 139-96, as the Nets played without Kevin Durant. The Celtics made sure to take advantage of a short-handed Nets team that struggled majorly from beyond the arc, shooting just 9-39 from three.?

The video of Boston fans stepping and stomping on Kyrie Irving?s Celtics jersey before the game clearly indicated that Boston fans were still not over Irving?s bitter departure from the team.

Many fans urged that it has been a while since Irving left, and it would be beneficial if Celtics fans moved on as well. Other fans also pointed out that one of the fans that stepped on Kyrie?s jersey was wearing his signature shoe.?

Prior to the 2018 NBA season, Kyrie Irving assured Celtics fans that he would be re-signing with the team. However, Irving soon left Celtics fans high and dry as he joined the Brooklyn Nets when his contract expired.

Since then, it has been a hostile environment for Irving every time he comes to play in the TD Garden. Irving told the media that his decision to leave Boston and join Brooklyn was to be closer to his New Jersey home.?

According to Kevin Skiver of SportingNews, Irving?s decision to not re-sign with the Celtics was heavily influenced by his grandfather?s death back then. Irving discussed the matter with the Celtics and clarified that he wanted to sign a new contract. But his perspective began to change when he pondered his grandfather’s passing and how basketball had kept Irving from seeing him before he passed away.?
