Considering the stories in The Last Dance, Michael Jordan never let his opponents get the best of him. However, that was not just in the NBA. Jordan, during his time with the Chicago Bulls, matched up with many high school players who went on to become NBA stars. One of them was former Clippers star, Darius Miles.?
Following his excellence in high school, Miles was drafted into the NBA as the third overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Clippers. The 6’9 veteran made it to the NBA All-Rookie Team in 2001, following his notable performance in his rookie year. However, Miles’s matchup with Jordan seems to be more famous than his NBA career.

The 41-year-old mentioned in an interview,?“I instantly walked up to Mike and guarded Mike…I’m long and I’m fast… So when I first started guarding him, I blocked his shot like twice. I blocked the fade away.” However, Miles’ defense against MJ didn’t work for too long. The former veteran added, “But this was like the first couple of times up and down…After that he didn’t miss a shot no more“.?

His Airness had to turn on beast mode to show Miles who he was. Be it a high schooler or a retired athlete, MJ wasn’t one to go easy. He made sure everyone faced his best version, irrespective of the situation. And Miles witnessed it firsthand in high school.
His Airness battled several other high school stars
This is not the first time MJ battled a high school star who went on to become an NBA veteran. In 1991, Jordan matched up with former San Antonio Spurs guard Michael Finley even before the latter entered the league. Jordan even predicted his future in the NBA as he mentioned, “I?ll see you in about five years in the league”?after demolishing Finley in a one-on-one.
