The Los Angeles Lakers are not in their best shape this season and are among the bottom five teams in the Western Conference. Despite having superstars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the team, the Lakers have failed to become one of the top contenders in their Conference. With the trade deadline just over a month away, the Lakers need a blockbuster trade keeping the team’s future in mind. Amid several possible trading options circulating in the media, it is quite possible that an Anthony Davis trade might be the way out of some of the team’s problems.

Four-time NBA champion LeBron James is currently leading the team single-handedly after Anthony Davis was sidelined yet again due to a foot injury. While Davis is known to be one of the best players in the league when healthy, he has also proven to be highly prone to injuries.

Ahead of the trade deadline, Joseph Casciaro from theScore has come up with a trade scenario that involves the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns. According to Casciaro, the Lakers trade that make the most sense right now is to trade Anthony Davis in exchange for the Suns’ Deandre Ayton and a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 pick swap, and a 2027 first-round pick.

LeBron James is in the 20th season of his NBA career and it might only be a matter of time before the 38-year-old superstar shows signs of decline in the upcoming seasons. On the other hand, Davis has a history of missing out on his team’s games due to injuries. The Lakers need to come up with a trade that can strengthen the roster in the future.

The Suns’ Deandre Ayton could be a fair trade for the Lakers. The 24-year-old star can not only partner up with LeBron but also contribute to forming a great foundation for the Lakers in the future, after James decides to retire from the league.

Phoenix Suns star Deandre Ayton might just be a good addition to the Los Angeles Lakers in Anthony Davis’ place. Ayton is currently averaging 18 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists. Drafted in 2018, the seven-foot star is only in his fifth season and is certainly showing drastic improvement.

Casciaro hopes that “with more responsibility in L.A., Ayton fine-tunes his game, while the Lakers would acquire a young star yet to hit his prime, one who’s under contract through 2025-26.”
