Michael Jordan crossed the billionaire threshold after Nike paid him $1.5 billion. The two have been in partnership for several years. It has been touted to be one of the most profitable partnerships in sports history. The Air Jordan brand is undoubtedly a mix of basketball, pop culture, and shoes. The first time he wore his Air Jordans, they immediately became a status symbol. It was a tangible object for people to even be in the vicinity of Jordan. For others, it was similar to tasting the secret sauce.

Michael Jordan also receives 5% royalties on all Jordan Brand sales. If one unpacks this stat for the year 2022, the conclusion is simple. He got $200 million in one year which is $100 million richer than what he made in his entire NBA career.

Despite having a long and illustrious career with the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards, Jordan made the most bucks post his retirement. In 2022, a year that has not even come to a full close, Jordan has already pocketed $200 million in royalties.

Just two weeks ago, Michael Jordan and Nike celebrated a partnership of almost 4 decades. Nike launched the Air Jordan in 1984 and has only seen multiplied success. They had hoped to cross $3 million in revenue in the first three years of the business. No one saw the $126 million that rolled out just in the first year alone.

Nike’s smart campaign moves and the infamous ‘Jumpman’ logo added to their success. It has expanded to athleisure as well.

Recently, as part of CSR, the Jordan Brand announced that the third round of applications for Community Grants is open. Craig Williams, the president of this brand confirmed that the business was committed to supporting the Black Community. It is slotted to be a $100 million commitment to encourage and support grassroots organizations.

The six-time champion remains one of the richest athletes ever. Michael Jordan keeps proving time and time again, that anybody else that attempts to match him has big shoes to fill!
